On this day in 1990, Cubs rightfielder Andre Dawson stole his 300th career base in an 11-5 loss to the Mets at Wrigley Field. “The Hawk” is the only player besides Willie Mays with 300 home runs, 300 steals, and 2,000 hits for his career.

Hat lift to the excellent Mets blog Hot Foot for finding the almost certainly fake but still fun twitter account @garycarterraw, where he gives his insights into the lives of some fellow HOFers and other baseball subjects — for example, juicing:
Andre Dawson would kill a box of Capri Suns in the dug out. Then he’d give the straw to groupies to chew on.
Andre Dawson “The Hawk” was voted into the baseball Hall of Fame today. He is not related to Rosario Dawson, but who wants to look at a pic of a mean old baseball player when you can look at pictures of this bright eyed giggler.
Dawson was a Chicago Cub for his 1987 MVP season when he hit 49 homers on nothing but good old fashioned drugs - no steriods or HGH for the hawk - just some painkillers, pep pills, and maybe some activator. And sweet lord he has a great set of tits… I mean he could sure throw a ball.
